Mark is a well-respected contractor with decades of experience building and remodeling homes in the Bay Area. He also has several years of experience helping businesses and homeowners deal with the aftermath of natural disasters, conducting site evaluations and helping them obtain assistance from the federal government.

He recently began getting requests from clients regarding how they could better protect their homes and property from the increasing threat of wildfire. Knowing a great deal about home hardening already, he asked his sister, Melodie, former Staff Chief of CAL FIRE’s Statewide Wildland Fire Prevention and Engineering Program, if she would take a look at the defensible space and supplemental water supply systems on a couple different job sites.

Melodie retired after 31 years of fighting fires throughout California. Like every firefighter, she’d done countless homeowner defensible space inspections but, while fighting fires and protecting structures, she also saw first hand how important these mitigation measures can be!

As a Staff Chief, managing CAL FIRE’s Statewide Prevention and Engineering Program she had the opportunity to work with and learn from other agencies, the building industry, legislators and the Department of Insurance. All with the intent of helping improve the survivability of people’s homes. So the opportunity to help Mark help his clients was perfect.

As it turned out, they both enjoyed using their areas of expertise to help these homeowners. So much so, that they decided to go into business together, forming this unique partnership, Matrix Fire Solutions. They look forward, enthusiastically, to using their combined experiences to help more people improve the survivability of their homes and businesses!
